Enjoy a family weekend away in Southampton by staying at the Holiday Inn Express Southampton M27 Jct7. This is a great hotel for all the family to enjoy, along with being situated in the perfect location for many great family attractions.
Two must see attractions are the theme park Paultons Park, Marwell Zoo or the Southampton Rose Bowl. Where else could you enjoy spending time with the famous Peppa Pig or ride on the terrifying Cobra Rollercoaster? If you are a sporting fan, then watching the cricket finals at the adjacent Rose Bowl is a must; what’s great is that the Holiday Inn Express Southampton M27Jct7 is only a 2 minute walk away.
For more educational attractions, then why not visit either the Solent Sky museum or the Bursledon Brickworks industrial museum. To visualize what the Solent Sky museum looks like, imagine the yellow submarine in the Beatles classic hit along with the classic fighter planes you witness in Pearl Harbor, minus the heart throb Ben Affleck.
Now if your children spend too much time watching TV or playing on the computer and you are after them spending more time outdoors, then there are many Country parks that the whole family can enjoy. The first is Manor Farm Country Park; this offers a picturesque landscape and ancient woodland on the banks of the River Hamble. The second is Itchen Valley Country Park, which offers many play trails, and picnic areas and the third option is Royal Victoria Country Park which overlooks the Southampton Water.
If you are looking for somewhere where the children can both enjoy themselves and be exhausted, in order for you to relax in the bar with a couple of drinks, then why not take the children to Alpine Snow sports Centre or their Olympic-sized Ice rink. I guarantee that after a full day skating, they will soon become the next Torvill and Dean. Another great attraction is Go Ape, in Itchen Valley. However this is not an attraction for people scared of heights as its involves: zip wiring through 30ft trees, crawling through tunnels and tackling high wire rope bridge. So basically your role is to play Tarzan for the day.

Now 2012 is an exciting year of events for Southampton, It’s been nearly 100 years since the famous Titanic Cruise liner hit an iceberg in the north Atlantic on her maiden voyage and sank with the loss of 1,500 people. Now Southampton, the city which provided most of the crew, is planning its own interactive museum, to open in time for the centenary which will be run at the Southampton City Art Gallery between 17th March – 29th April 2012.
Southampton was thrown into deep mourning by the tragedy. It was the port from which the new liner set off on her maiden passenger voyage on 5 April 1912 and 549 of the dead, a third of the total casualty list, hailed from the city – yet only one was a passenger. On display at the Museum will be many of the 4,000 artifacts from the disaster that the city has gathered over the years, many of which are in storage: plates and cutlery, letters and menu cards, and fragments garnered from the seabed after the wreckage was finally located by a team led by the American oceanographer Robert Ballard in 1985. Also in store are recordings of the recollections of about 70 survivors. If visiting the Museum then why not stay at the Holiday Inn Express Southampton M27 Jct7, only 10 minutes by car.
